The GolfBC Group is pleased to announce a $150,000 donation to charity at the 2019 GolfBC Championship held at Gallagher’s Canyon Golf & Country Club, bringing the total charitable contribution over the four years to $600,000.

While the BC Cancer Foundation remained as the tournament’s designated charity beneficiary and received a donation of $100,000, GolfBC also committed to direct a portion of this year’s donation to support a local charity or not-for-profit program that serves and benefits the Okanagan region. The Kelowna community was invited to help select this year’s secondary charity beneficiary, and after an overwhelming response of nominations and votes, it was announced that the Central Okanagan Food Bank would be the recipient of a $50,000 donation.

“Philanthropy is a large focus for our companies, and with a total of $600,000 donated over the four years of the GolfBC Championship, we are proud to be one of the most charitable events on the Mackenzie Tour. On behalf of GolfBC and the Chan Family Foundation it is our honour to be awarding these cheques today to the BC Cancer Foundation and Central Okanagan Food Bank,” said Andy Hedley, Vice President of Golf Operations for GolfBC Group.

“We are overwhelmed by the support of the community to help us select this year’s secondary charity beneficiary. Over 3,000 votes were cast, and it is our pleasure to award the Central Okanagan Food Bank with a donation of $50,000”, said Rita Rennie, Director of Marketing at GolfBC Group.

“We are incredibly grateful to be the recipient of this year’s $50,000 donation from the GolfBC Group,” says Tammie Watson, Revenue Development Officer for the Central Okanagan Food Bank. “This donation couldn’t have come at a better time, and will enable us to continue to provide nutritional food for all those facing food insecurity, within our community, throughout the summer and into the fall months. We deeply thank everyone who voted for us, and the GolfBC Group for helping us create a healthy, hunger-free community.”

Giving back to the community through charitable initiatives has always been at the core of GolfBC Group and its charitable arm, the Chan Family Foundation. When GolfBC took on the role of Title Sponsor in 2016, the charitable aspect of the event — as well as the importance of directing the funds to help the Kelowna community — was a main priority. The GolfBC Championship has directly supported the tournament’s designated charity, the BC Cancer Foundation’s project towards improving PET/CT technology and accessibility in the Kelowna area, bringing the most advanced cancer diagnostic tool closer to patients in need. In response to the devastation caused by flooding in the Kelowna community, the 2017 event chose to also support the Red Cross Kelowna Flood Relief efforts.
