The Mackenzie Tour PGA TOUR Canada GolfBC Championship announced today that a significant portion of the proceeds from the GolfBC Championship, being played at Gallagher’s Canyon June 12th – 18th, will go to Red Cross Kelowna flood relief.
Tournament Director Hugh Vassos stated: “We want to demonstrate our support for the community in this time of need by giving something back from the tournament and our title sponsor GolfBC. As a professional golf tournament that relies on hundreds of volunteers, generous sponsors, and the support of thousands of golf fans; this is the right thing to do.” Vassos adds; “We are part of the community and making a significant donation to fight the flood is our way of helping Kelowna.”
“The fundamental belief upon which the Chan Family Foundation – GolfBC’s charitable arm – is built around is the spirit of giving back to our communities and the importance of helping others,” said Rita Rennie, GolfBC Director of Marketing. “We are pleased to continue supporting the BC Cancer Foundation as the GolfBC Championship’s designated charity beneficiary, however with the devastation caused by the current flooding in the Kelowna area, we have decided to direct part proceeds of our fundraising initiatives at this year’s event to aid the Red Cross Kelowna flood relief efforts.
Scott Pritchard, Vice President Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada said; “The GolfBC Championship has made philanthropy a major priority and become one of the most charitable events on the Mackenzie Tour, so it’s no surprise they would want to direct funds to such a noble cause. It’s an important part of the Mackenzie Tour’s mission to make a positive impact in every community where we play and the GolfBC Championship is certainly establishing itself as a leader in this area.”
